Social Profile(s)
Environment
Aldemar's environmental movement and the bonds with the local communities date from the time the company was founded several years ago. Actually, Aldemar has repeatedly been awarded with prizes and has gained several distinctions since 2002 in recognition of its coordinated activities in environmental programmes by major tourist organisations, such as Hotel Plan, Kuoni and TUI.
The development of the novel Mare Verde Environmental Programme is targeted at the systematic preservation of nature and the raising of everyone's standards of living.
Within the framework of our environmental policy:
- We preserve aquatic resources by economizing the water supply and employing biological cleaning and purification processes.
- Tapping solar energy on Crete, Rhodes and the West Peloponesse provides for 85% of our respective energy needs.
- Activation / Deactivation of electricity supply is machine-controlled (key-card, air-conditioning).
- We use economical packaging for our disposable products to reduce waste produce.
- We keep the coastline litter free and take great pride in the awarding of the prestigious Blue Flag international prize for the entire length of our coast every year in succession since 1998.
- We take an active part in the International Day for the Environment and the campaign to keep the coast clean.
- We have set up and cultivate Aldemar Farm at Olympian Village to supply quality controlled dietary products to our guests.
- Our hotel installations feature rock gardens with tropical plants.
- Our own production in the Peloponnese and Crete covers a large percentage of our dietary needs in fruit and vegetables.
- We systematically recycle paper, glass, batteries and plastic at all hotel units.
- We run a regular feature on the environment in "Maties", the personnel's own newspaper, with up-to-date information which is meant to make employees more sensitive to their surroundings.
- We have set up the Aldemar Hotels & Spa Volunteer Task Force that actively participates in every enviromental activity of the Group.
How can you join in the environmental awareness movement?
- Ask to have your bed sheets changed every three days (for an extended period of stay).
- Place the towels in the bath tub if you want them replaced.
- Disconnect the power supply to your room while you are out (key-card).
- During your stay, use the paper and cloth Aldemar bags-avoid plastic ones.
- Turn off the taps in the bathroom while shaving or brushing your teeth.
- Dispose of your waste in the designated baskets located in the hotel areas and at the beach.
- You can obtain regularly updated information on our environmental activities from the Development & Quality Monitoring Department of Aldemar & Spa. You can also register online for the Mare Verde programme.
- You can visit the areas of environmental interest located in the vicinity of our hotels and referred to on our Web site.
